December 3rd Meeting

Rick Murphy introduced Paula Banks, LSW, CMC Director of Geriatric Care at Living Innovations .

The Cape Elizabeth resident recently sold her geriatric care business to Living Innovations. Having been in the pro-fession 30 years-ever since she read about it in the Chicago Tribune. She loves doing what she does!  Her web site (https://store.empoweringparents.com/elder-care-revolution/)  says it best:

“Do you have an elderly parent or loved one who can no longer take care of themselves? Are you struggling to care for them, parent your kids, and manage your job, and it's not working? Has your life turned into one elder care crisis after another?

“Caring for an aging loved one makes you feel like you have to become a doctor, a lawyer, a financial planner and a psychologist overnight. It's overwhelming. Where do you start?

“Should they live on their own or with you? How do you get care for your parent without breaking the bank and exhausting yourself? How do you even talk to your elderly loved one about tough subjects such as incontinence, refusal to see a doctor, finances, wills and moving to a nursing home?

“As a Professional Geriatric Care Manager, I understand that the stress and fear you're dealing with is probably taking over your life. And I'm here to tell you it doesn't have to be that way. It's time we stopped expecting families to "just know" what to do when their elderly loved ones are in decline. That's why I created The Elder Care Revolution—the essential guide to caring for an aging parent.”

Her initial consultation is done for no charge. Typically charges range from $75 to $300 per hour. She stressed that a couple of hours could say the client $1000. A full assessment  can take 10 -12 hours to complete. Sometimes , she is asked to implement the plan.

She is concerned about the increase in dementia in conjunction with the “Silver Tsunami” that is happening as the Baby Boomers turn 65.

She concluded by stating the best advice she could give to us was to visit: https://www.benefitscheckup.org/
