District Governor Carolyn Johnson Presenting Paul Harris Fellow Pin to Jared Avery with Scarborough President Candy Macomber

"I did not expect that" was the characteristically understated reaction of RYLA Director and Scarborough Rotarian Jared Avery when Club President Candy Macomber and District Governor Carolyn Johnson surprised him with his Paul Harris Fellow Award at the closing ceremony of the 2014 RYLA camp in Raymond, Maine. Fellow members of his home club, Scarborough Rotary, were on hand, as were Angela and Owen, Jared's wife and son. They were tipped off in advance but kept their secret well. Assistant Director Sarah Leighton coordinated the surprise presentation, which was presented before the final assembly of staff, RYLA students, parents and Rotarians.

The Scarborough Club sponsored the award in recognition of the incredible number of hours Jared serves for RYLA, District Youth Services and club projects.
