April 16th Meeting

Danielle Beckwith from ElectricityMaine was tonight’s speaker:

“We are a locally owned and operated electricity supply company dedicated to providing Mainers with competitive electricity rates for their homes and businesses while helping the people of Maine.”

“In addition to providing competitive electricity rates, Electricity Maine is a Maine-owned company whose owners and employees all live and work right here. We feel strongly about supporting our state through creating good paying jobs, buying our business services from Maine companies, and supporting local organizations, groups and non-profits through our Power to Help Fund.”

Deregulation was introduced to Maine 12 years ago. However it was available only to commercial users. ElectricityMaine began 2 years ago. Being among the first, they have over 200,000 accounts. They are one of two Maine based suppliers so more money remains in our state.  The other Maine based company offers a bundle of both oil and electricity.

All electricity suppliers obtain their power from the same source. Danielle stressed that it was not only price but what they offer  that sets them apart. Each successful new account referral  from a nonprofit earns that organization $5.00.  She stated that prices have come down. However, it is forecasted that prices will trend up. Consequently a long term agreement that offers price protection costs more than a shorter term.
